We Honor North Dakota State Representative Liz Conmy

WHEREAS: Representative Liz Conmy was a friend of labor, recommended by the Northern Plains United Labor Council for endorsement, and endorsed by the North Dakota AFL-CIO convention in 2022, as a candidate who would fight for working people in District 11, and 

WHEREAS: Representative Conmy was elected by the voters of District 11, who placed their trust in her to represent their interests in the North Dakota legislature for the next four years; and

WHEREAS: Representative Conmy put her values of empathy, fairness and justice into action, supporting working families in her district through advocacy and legislation, and 

WHEREAS: Representative Conmy was the kind of representative who showed up for our unions, regularly attending labor events and trainings in the Red River Valley; and

WHEREAS: Representative Conmy was a skilled communicator and educator by trade, teaching at Minnesota State University Moorhead for many years, inspiring generations of students in our community, and also frequently putting those skills to use for progressive causes, organizations, and coalitions; and 

WHEREAS: North Dakota State Representative Liz Conmy tragically died in an airplane crash in Minnesota on April 25, 2026; and 

WHEREAS: Representative Conmy leaves behind a legacy of standing up for working people, radiating empathy, determination, and solidarity as she inarguably made North Dakota a better place through her service; and therefore be it 

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO extends our deepest condolences to Representative Liz Conmy’s friends, family, neighbors and colleagues; and be it further 

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO will celebrate and honor Representative Liz Conmy’s legislative accomplishments and advocacy by continuing to fight for fairness and respect at the workplaces and in our legislature.
