We Stand in Solidarity with Target Field Stadium Workers

WHEREAS: Over 500 stadium workers at Target Field in Minneapolis held a one-day strike, urging fans to not cross picket lines by bringing their own food to the Twins game on Monday, June 22nd; and 

WHEREAS: Members of UNITE HERE Local 17 voted for the strike after the last bargaining session with major league stadium operator “Delaware North,” citing low pay and lack of health insurance as driving factors; and 

WHEREAS: Many North Dakota workers are Twins baseball fans and attend baseball games and other events at Target Field throughout the summer; and 

WHEREAS: Workers collectively withholding their labor by going on strike is one of the most powerful and effective forms of action that workers can take to defend ourselves from exploitation and expand our collective interests; and 

WHEREAS: It takes considerable courage and strength to go on strike; and therefore be it 

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with UNITE HERE Local 17 in their ongoing fight for higher wages and health insurance for stadium workers at Target Field; and be it further

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO will call on the bosses at Delaware North to negotiate in good faith with UNITE HERE Local 17; and be it further

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO will educate North Dakota union members about ways to support Target Field stadium workers and apprise them of future strikes and other labor actions.
