We Support the North Dakota School Meals Ballot Measure

WHEREAS: The North Dakota labor movement, the state federation, labor councils, and affiliated unions have been steadfast supporters of universal school meals in our communities and at the legislature; and 

WHEREAS: The North Dakota legislature has failed to pass universal school meals funding during the last three legislative sessions, despite overwhelming public support; and

WHEREAS: Together for School Meals, a coalition of organizations that support universal school meals, is leading the effort to pass a universal school meals constitutional ballot measure that would guarantee every student attending K-12 schools in North Dakota breakfast and lunch at no cost to the student or their families; and

WHEREAS: North Dakota can easily afford to feed all students while they are at school; and 

WHEREAS: North Dakota working families with children in school would save nearly $1,000 per student per year; and

WHEREAS: Costs for working families in North Dakota are increasing at an alarming rate, and therefore be it 

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO fully supports Together for School Meals effort to put universal school meals in our constitution; and be it further

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO will educate union members on the importance of passing this ballot measure; and be it further 

RESOLVED: The North Dakota AFL-CIO will help raise funds and volunteer to help this campaign win in November.
