North Dakota AFL-CIO Statement on the killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti

Then North Dakota AFL-CIO issued the following statement on the killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a member of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), in Minneapolis:
The North Dakota AFL-CIO sends our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, neighbors, union siblings, co-workers and patients of Alex Jeffrey Pretti. Alex was an intensive care nurse at the Minneapolis VA and a member of AFGE Local 3669. He was senselessly killed by federal agents on Jan. 24th, 2026 while volunteering to protect the constitutional rights and safety of his community. We will remember Alex in our words and deeds until justice is served.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti is the second person in Minnesota to be killed by federal agents in three weeks. The people of Minnesota are less safe with these agents in their state. This campaign of politically motivated retribution and violence against the working people of Minnesota must stop
now.
We stand in solidarity with the AFL-CIO, the MN AFL-CIO, the Regional and Area Labor Federations of Minnesota, and the people of Minnesota themselves in calling for ICE to leave Minnesota immediately. We also join the call for a full, transparent investigation by local authorities to ensure that accountability and justice is served. In addition, we call on our congressional leaders in North Dakota to use their power to hold ICE accountable for their
violations of constitutional rights and human decency.
May we all draw inspiration from the tens of thousands of working people in Minnesota who are uniting, standing together as neighbors across partisan divides, and demanding peace and justice in their state and country.
Our solidarity is our strength, and an injury to one is an injury to all.
