2021 Convention Resolution of Appreciation for Food Security Work
ND AFL-CIO 62nd Convention
A RESOLUTION OF THANKS AND APPRECIATION FOR UNION EFFORTS TO ADDRESS FOOD INSECURITY IN OUR COMMUNITIES
WHEREAS: Food insecurity is a major hardship for many working families before, during and after the pandemic with 1 in 15 people and 1 in every 11 children in North Dakota facing hunger; and
WHEREAS: The North Dakota labor movement was able to help distribute 324,000 pounds of food and 10,800 gallons of milk at nine events in five different areas through the USDA Farmers to Families food relief program; and
WHEREAS: North Dakota Labor Councils, Building Trades Councils and dozens of volunteers who were instrumental in planning and executing fast, efficient and dignified local distribution of food; and
WHEREAS: The West Area Labor Council / Red River Valley played a vital role in organizing and expanding these efforts to communities across the tri-state area; and
WHEREAS: Erica Dalager from the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation was responsible for connecting North Dakota unions with the USDA Farmers to Families Program that made this outreach possible; and therefore be it
